For generations, where you lived could determine which opportunities were within reach.
A business might need to be located near a major metropolitan area to access customers, suppliers and specialized services. A student might have to leave their hometown to pursue certain educational opportunities. A patient might travel hours for specialized healthcare. And employers in rural communities could face challenges competing for talent or reaching markets beyond their region.

Across rural New Mexico, reliable broadband infrastructure can help reduce the distance between a small community and the opportunities available in Albuquerque, Dallas, Los Angeles, or virtually anywhere else.
A business in southeastern New Mexico can communicate with customers and partners across the country.
A student in a rural community can access online courses, training programs and educational resources that once required relocating.
Healthcare providers can use telehealth and connected technologies to extend access to patients who may live many miles from specialized care.
Employers can recruit talent differently, employees can participate in remote work, and entrepreneurs can build businesses in the communities they already call home.

It isn't simply about moving data faster. It's about helping create pathways to education, healthcare, employment, entrepreneurship and economic development, regardless of ZIP code.
And making those connections possible requires infrastructure beyond the connection to an individual home or business.
Middle-mile networks provide the critical pathways that connect local networks and broadband providers to larger regional and national networks.
They create the routes that allow enormous amounts of data to move between communities, providers and major interconnection points.

By connecting communities and networks across New Mexico and providing pathways to major interconnection points beyond the state, we're helping build infrastructure that allows local providers to reach farther and rural communities to remain connected to an increasingly digital economy.
Because rural New Mexico shouldn't have to move closer to opportunity.
We should keep building the connections that bring opportunity closer to rural New Mexico.
That's how we create a stronger, more connected state.
